Things Are Changing
Kentucky 811 has entered into an agreement with One Call Concepts Inc., to provide the 811 before you dig contact center service that includes receiving, processing and transmitting underground utility locate requests in Kentucky. This service was previously performed by Underground Safety Alliance, which in conjunction with Indiana 811, has provided this service since 2005. Kentucky 811 is in the midst of restructuring the organization to better position it for the future. One Call Concepts uses a state-of-the-art software system that utilizes several cutting-edge technologies such as virtual white lining and a fully functional app for mobile devices. I’m convinced that this change will reduce underground utility damages and make Kentucky a safer place to work. The transition will take place over the summer months and be complete by October 1, 2022. We have assembled teams that are dedicated to ensuring that the transition is as seamless as possible without any interruption to the current contact 811 before you dig services.
How does this involve you?
- If you are a utility operator that is a member of Kentucky 811, a representative from One Call Concepts will be contacting your company to establish your mapping footprint and set up the communication links in the new system. We will also need to test the outbound transmission of locate requests to your system prior to going live on October 1, 2022.
- If you are an excavator and use the online locate request function, you will be provided information to establish login credentials and view demonstration videos of the new software capabilities.
During the next few months, you will have a chance to see more of the technology being deployed as a result of the new partnership. One Call Concepts will attend the Kentucky Damage Prevention Summit in Lexington from June 28 – 30, where they will have demonstrations of the different cutting-edge software tools being made available to both excavators and operators. Additionally, we will be hosting a series of virtual informational meetings to provide greater details and answer questions.
There’s a saying, “things don’t get better by chance, they get better by change”. Change, especially in business, forces us to examine things deeply and provides us the opportunity to enhance processes that we wouldn’t otherwise disrupt. I’ve always heard “if it aint broke…don’t fix it”. But, just because something isn’t broken doesn’t mean that it can’t be improved.
